🚆 News on the Ivanhoe Line! 🚆
I’ve secured a Westminster Hall Debate on restoring the Ivanhoe Line, due to take place on Wednesday 28th January.
This type of debate lets MPs put local issues directly to the Government and get a Minister’s response on the record. No vote, but a powerful way to push for action and keep the pressure on.
This is a real step forward for the campaign to restore the Ivanhoe Line.
💬 Have your say:

🏠 Today we have launched the Warm Homes Plan, the biggest investment in home upgrades in British history.
This Labour government knows the cost of living is one of the biggest issues facing families. That’s why we’re cutting £150 off energy bills from April and delivering record investment to upgrade homes and lower bills for the long term.
This plan will:
✅ Lift up to 1 million families out of fuel poverty by targeting support at low-income households and tackling long-term energy costs.
✅ Help millions of families cut their energy bills with access to clean power upgrades like solar panels, batteries, heat pumps and insulation.
✅ Protect renters by making sure landlords upgrade homes so they are safe, warm and affordable.
🔥 Direct support for low-income families
Low-income households will receive free home upgrade packages, tailored to what works best for their home - backed by £5 billion of public investment.
That could mean fully funded solar panels and a battery, covering the full average cost of £9,000–£12,000.
For people in social housing, upgrades can be rolled out street by street, lowering bills and improving warmth and comfort across whole neighbourhoods.
⚡An offer for everyone
A new government-backed programme of zero and low-interest loans will help more families install solar panels, alongside new rules so all new homes come with solar panels by default.
This will triple the number of homes with solar panels by 2030.
There’ll also be a £7,500 universal grant for heat pumps, including the first-ever support for air-to-air heat pumps, which can cool homes in the summer too.
🏘️ New protections for renters
Right now, 1.6 million children are living in private rented homes affected by cold, damp or mould.
We believe if you rent a home, private or social, your landlord must ensure it is safe, warm and affordable.
By strengthening renters’ protections and supporting landlords to upgrade homes fairly over time, around half a million families will be lifted out of fuel poverty by the end of the decade. ... See MoreSee Less

It was great to welcome the Minister for Industry to North West Leicestershire last week for a roundtable discussion and site visits focused on our logistics hub. The visit included stops at Nestlé’s GXO facility, Kuehne+Nagel, and the Maritime rail freight terminal.
We were also fortunate to see one of the UK’s first megawatt-scale HGV charging facilities and vehicles being trialled, highlighting how the logistics sector is continuing its journey towards decarbonisation.
It was also fantastic to meet Generation Logistics Ambassadors who are at the start of their careers, showcasing the wide range of opportunities the sector has to offer. ... See MoreSee Less

As Co-Chair of the Food and Drink APPG, and an MP proudly representing a rural constituency, it was a pleasure to celebrate fantastic food manufacturers across the country at our inaugural MP Choice Awards.
Events like this matter because they give us the chance to pause, reflect, and properly celebrate the people behind the products that end up on all our tables.
These businesses are not just employers and exporters; they are anchors in their communities, sustaining local economies and upholding the highest standards of British food.
Congratulations to the winner, Chalk Stream, and to all the regional finalists.🎉 ... See MoreSee Less

Whilst this is from our West Midlands Ambulance Colleagues a key message!
Schools are an important part of the defibrillator network.
The Oliver King Foundation supported by Lord Polak, who I will be nominating to be my Vice Chair on the APPG for Cardiac Risk in the Young, was part of the team that convinced the previous Government to fund a defib in every school.
I have asked every school in North West Leicestershire to connect their Defib to the Curcuit, I am however, wanting to go further and see if we can get the Defibs in our Schools to be accessible even when the school is closed on the outside.❓Did you know 1 in 3 cardiac arrests in the West Mids happens within 300 metres of a school? ❤️🩹
Why does that matter?
Well, schools have defibrillators that can be used to restart a heart. However, if we don't know they're there, we can't send someone to get them!

Really positive news following our cash boost for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. I’m pleased I was able to make the case to Ministers ahead of the announcements just before Christmas and then have a follow up meeting with the Chief Fire Officer and Leicestershire FBU between Christmas and New Year.
After over a decade of cuts, it’s time to renew our public services and this is very welcome news.
