🏦Banking Hubs Process! 💸
A Banking Hub doesn’t just appear when a branch closes; there’s a formal process run by LINK and Cash Access UK that decides whether a town gets one and where the most suitable location for it is. Finding a location for a premises does not impact the decision making process.
Here’s how it actually works 👇
📋Step 1: Assessment
LINK looks at what’s already nearby:
* Is there another bank in town?
* How far do people have to travel?
* How easy is that journey in real life?
🏧Step 2: Community need
They examine who lives here and who still relies on face-to-face banking:
* Older residents
* People without reliable internet or digital skills
* Local businesses needing cash services
They also consider buses, busy roads and travel times, not just distance on a map.
🚶♂️Step 3: Visit on the ground
If they believe there is a potential gap, they visit the area to see the reality for themselves.
✅❌Step 4: Decision
They then decide whether to recommend:
🏦 A full Banking Hub
💷 Better cash/ATM services
or no change if they believe access is already adequate.
If they decide a community requires a Banking Hub, they then instigate a thorough process to find the best location possible.
🚨️Important: Communities can request a review, challenge decisions and push for better access to banking. That's why I'll be making our case for a Banking Hub for Coalville and discussing other assessments during my meeting with LINK later this week, ahead of submitting a formal review.

⏰ 5:45am alarm.
📱 Refresh. Refresh. Refresh.
❌ Still no test.
That’s the message I’m hearing again and again from local driving instructors and learners.
Across North West Leicestershire, people are being left in limbo. For young people, their Independence pushed back. Instructors and learners are getting up before dawn just to try and secure a test slot and still coming away empty-handed.
This isn’t good enough for our area, especially when we know our public transport links are unreliable and not good enough. (I’m pushing hard to improve this too!!)
Local learners deserve a fair shot at getting on the road without months of uncertainty. Our driving instructors need our support to ensure that they can access tests at the appropriate time for their learners.
Safe for learners and safe for our instructors and examiners too. Waiting significant time between a first and second test makes the system more difficult to manage too.
I’ll keep pushing for more action so that our communities aren’t left waiting.
🚗 Have you struggled to book a driving test locally?

National Apprenticeship Week at DHL!
What a brilliant day, celebrating all things apprenticeships as part of National Apprenticeship Week. I was so pleased to be part of such an inspiring event at DHL.
I was delighted to take part in the roundtable discussion on the future of apprenticeships. It was such an important conversation with lots of thoughtful perspectives shared.
It’s always brilliant to meet young apprentices and hear directly about what their journeys mean to them.
Thank you again to DHL for a fantastic event, everyone who joined us and continues to champion apprenticeships. ... See MoreSee Less

🚨 Coalville deserves proper banking access 🚨
Following the announced closure of Lloyds Bank, many residents, especially older and vulnerable people who rely on counter services, are understandably worried. North West Leicestershire’s largest town must not be left without proper access to cash and banking services.
I’m already acting. I’m challenging the current assessment with LINK and secured a meeting to press the case for a Banking Hub in Coalville, just as has been done successfully in Ashby with their hub set to open later this year.
✍️ My petition, which has already had hundreds of signatures, is building momentum and showing the strength of local feeling. Please sign and share to help us make the strongest possible case.
This is about standing up for Coalville and working together, across parties and across our community, to protect vital local services.
I’ve written to Cllr Smith regarding his comments on social media about the closure of the Lloyds branch in Coalville and my petition for a Banking Hub.
Let’s make sure our town isn’t left behind.

🏦 Closure of Lloyds Bank, Coalville
I have been informed that the Lloyds Bank branch in Coalville will close on 23rd June 2026.
Lloyds will be contacting local customers shortly, if they have not already, to make them aware of the closure and alternative ways of banking with Lloyds.
Lloyds have agreed to provide a Community Banker to support their local customers after the branch closes and whilst this support is welcome, many residents and local businesses will understandably be concerned about the loss of a permanent high-street banking presence in Coalville.
Access to in-person banking services remains vital for those who are less able to travel, people who are not confident using digital banking, and for small businesses that rely on cash services. The closure will require customers to travel further for face-to-face support, and I know this will be inconvenient and worrying for some.
That is why I have already engaged with LINK to request a Banking Hub review for Coalville to ensure face-to-face services remain local to the area. I’ll also be writing to Lloyds directly too.
You can sign my petition now to help show your support and the strength of feeling locally for bringing a Banking Hub to Coalville to help protect these vital services.

It was great to re-establish the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) alongside a number of cross party colleagues.
12 young people (aged 35 and under) a week are dying suddenly in the UK from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. Of these deaths, figures show 80% of them will occur with no prior symptoms.
CRY is calling for the National Screening Committee to review and reconsider evidence supporting the roll-out of a national screening programme, and for a national screening strategy for the prevention of young sudden cardiac death. When a similar programme was introduced in Italy in the 1980s, it saw a reduction in young people dying of 85%.
We will be working closely with organisations across the UK to look at best practise, supported by CRY, to help prevent as many tragedies as possible. That includes sporting organisations, health teams and other charities.
I previously spoke to The Mirror about why this campaign means so much to myself and many others across the UK. You can read the article here: www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/calls-more-screenings-12-young-36447529#comments-wrapper ... See MoreSee Less
