A look forward to 2026
Over the past year, alongside colleagues in the Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG), I’ve continued to work closely with local farmers. I’ve met with more than 50 farmers across North West Leicestershire and have consistently pressed the Government to rethink its Inheritance and Property relief proposals.

🚨 NHS WAITING LISTS DOWN BY A WHOPPING 86,000 🚨
That’s the second biggest drop in 15 years, despite record demand in 2025, a tough winter so far, and industrial action.
The facts speak for themselves 👇
✅ Waiting lists are falling
🩺 Patient satisfaction with GP access has risen from 60% to 75%
👩⚕️ Fewer staff are leaving the NHS than at any point in the last decade (outside the pandemic)
Make no mistake, this progress is down to the hard work of NHS staff, Labour’s modernisation of the NHS, and record investment - Investment that the Tories and Reform both opposed.
There’s still so much more to do and a long way to go..
But today shows we’re turning the NHS around and getting it back on its feet. This is what renewal looks like. 💪❤️🩹 ... See MoreSee Less

Really pleased to see both Coalville and Ashby are considering bids to become the UK Town of Culture.

We’re delivering the biggest investment in rail in a generation, and it’s great to see up to £45 billion allocated to Northern Powerhouse Rail.
I’m continuing to push hard for better rail links here in the East Midlands. Just today I met with Network Rail to discuss plans and ideas for reinstating the Ivanhoe Line.
I raise the Ivanhoe Line with colleagues and Ministers in Parliament at every opportunity and it remains right at the forefront of my campaigning. ... See MoreSee Less

A Big step forward for working families 👶💙
From April, millions of workers will get day-one rights to parental leave, meaning no parent has to choose between their job and being there for their child.
Over 18 million workers will benefit, including 32,000 more dads who will be able to take paternity leave straight away, as a mother would with maternity leave.
Plus new rights for bereaved partners to take up to 52 weeks’ leave. This fixes the previously unfair system where bereaved partners had to rely on the compassion of an employer to be granted time off to grieve.
That's the difference our Employment Rights Act will make. These changes mean fairer workplaces and better support for families when it matters most. ... See MoreSee Less

Filling in potholes isn’t just about making roads safer for everyone; it also helps prevent unnecessary and unexpected repair costs for drivers, which can often run into hundreds of pounds.
As part of a major uplift in funding for road maintenance (£144m for Leicestershire, on top of last year's £28.5m) the Department for Transport is rating local councils on how well they fill potholes and look after their roads. These ratings are based on three key areas:
🚦 Road condition: How good or bad the state of local roads is
💰 Council spending: How much councils invest in road repairs
🛠️ Best practice: Whether councils follow best practice in maintaining highways
Some of this funding was put to good use last summer in Coalville, where several roads were resurfaced, a welcome and long-overdue improvement for local road users. However, the data shows that we are still lagging behind other councils when it comes to following best practice and overall spend on road maintenance, which is disappointing.
What do you think of our roads here in North West Leicestershire? Let me know in the comments below!

Around 12 young people a week in the UK are dying from undiagnosed heart conditions. Many are fit, active, and have no idea anything is wrong.
We need better awareness and wider screening so these silent conditions are caught before it’s too late. Early detection can and does save lives.
I recently spoke to The Mirror about my personal experiences and the campaign pushing for wider screening. ⬇️ ... See MoreSee Less

Here is an example of a casework success in recent weeks, supporting local people and businesses.
I was contacted by a member of the public regarding manhole covers popping up in the middle of the B5324 near Belton, causing an outflow of sewage water and creating a dangerous hazard for drivers.
Following contact with Severn Trent over a number of months, I’m pleased to confirm that repairs to the sewage pumping station nearby have now been completed to prevent this from happening again. We will of course be liaising with local people to ensure this resolves the issues.
If you need support, the team and I are here to help, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Really proud to have spoken in Parliament about the history of some of our towns and how they could benefit from applying to be the new UK Town of Culture!
Culture isn’t just about big cities, it’s about the everyday pride, heritage, creativity and volunteers that make our towns special. From the community spirit of our towns to their markets, history and local events, culture brings people together, boosts local pride and can help attract investment opportunities for everyone.
I'm excited to see towns across the country and locally here in North West Leicestershire put themselves forward and share their stories.
Every place has a story worth telling. 📣🎨📍 ... See MoreSee Less
