I met with the Flooding Minister Emma Hardy MP today after the Water (Special Measures) Bill Committee.
The team and I are working hard to support those impacted alongside the local authorities by the recent flooding. I will continue to advocate with both national and local governments on flood defence schemes and funding to ensure we can implement the necessary measures to help protect our community.
A number of people have also contacted me regarding blocked drains or waterways. Whilst we can, and have reported these to the relevant authority, you can find out who to contact to report them directly here too: shorturl.at/ENe2y , alongside other useful contacts such as wellbeing and practical support.

Dredge the rivers Stop building on flood plains Better rain water harvesting and Less hard surface run off in new builds Integrated rivers and lakes. Move water where its needed and away from where it isn't. But let's be honest in just over 4 years when you seek our votes nothing would have changed for the better and we will be paying more for it.
Thank you for your efforts Amanda. Sitting on the local Planning Committee I tire with the constant flow of ‘no problem with flooding Councillor’ from the relevant authorities - when the local communities know otherwise!
Absolutely brilliant! Never seen such a bad flooding in this area and always worry when my daughters are driving in wet weather now. Wonder if the new housing estates built on flood prone land have got anything to do with it? Water has to go somewhere! Also I have written to you numerous times to have a meeting with you face to face (probably via zoom as I am struggling with walking at the moment). Thanks Anne-Mari
I was proud to support Labour's Renters Rights bill yesterday which will:
✅ Limit the advance rent landlords can demand
✅ Prevent students from being pressured into signing early tenancy agreements
✅ Protect bereaved families acting as guarantors for their relatives

This is good abd long overdue. Will you be able to update re lease especially in regard to extending lease. Also year on year service charge increases with little improvement in services and outstanding work on buildings for years. Especially concerning where Social Housing Association is concerned. I welcome your feedback Amanda. Thanks for all of your hard work!
WHY did you not attend RELAUNCH OF APPG Gaps in Support by @switherdenMP earlier this. Neither you replied to my email!
Good luck finding all the houses for the homeless renters as a result of this - all you’re doing is forcing genuine landlords to sell their properties
On Friday, I had the opportunity to meet with the Chief Fire Officer of the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. I expressed my thanks to the team members at Castle Donington Fire Station for their hard work following the floods from last week.
We talked about how quickly the water levels rose and how this impacted the response, which ultimately led to the declaration of a major incident with all resources being deployed across the county.
It was also good to understand more about the funding gap between Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and other areas across the UK, which I will be raising with the Minister shortly. ... See MoreSee Less

You’ve STILL not answered my query - Via Facebook or the email that I sent you. This is regarding your vote against a new enquiry into grooming gangs.

Please also support work to use the data the government already has to automatically enrol eligible children for free school meals. Why require families to “apply” when the data is already known?? Save schools a job at the same time!
It took this long for Parliament to protect vulnerable children but then again it will still mean children are maimed or killed because so called professionals are more worried about offending someone's feelings or the backlash against whistle blowers and senior management cover ups
Case loads placed on staff will mean this is pure nonsense. If nobody has the time then this legislation will of itself not help as it won't have the resources to make it happen and the culture needs to change. People should be allowed to voice their concerns and they should be acted upon.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I have spoken to residents on the doorstep who have been waiting far too long for their procedures. Under this Government, our proposals will get us back to hitting the 18-week referral to treatment target so people no longer have to put their lives on hold.

What are your thoughts Amanda on the bond vigilantes circling the treasury. You don't need to be an expert to know that over the coming weeks the markets may spot a bargain and buy gilts, in that case Labour have bought themselves a few months. But the reality is they smell blood and a U turn will be needed. It's open knowlegde that economists know that only deep cuts to UK spending will prop the government up as tax increases will further damage a fragile economy. Your slogans would be great to believe in, but I suggest the opposite will happen. No one can buck the markets, not even the fifth biggest economy. Reality is slowing dawning on the electorate. Your constituents will need reality over the coming months not wishful thinking.
Having different departments & specialists sharing information with each other would help a lot too. It wastes so much time going over pre existing problems
And us who work in the NHS can see the start you’ve made ( new EMPCC )

The Water (Special Measures) Bill Committee starts today, and I am proud to be a member working to clean up our rivers, lakes, and seas.
Bill Committees consist of a cross-party group of MPs who review potential legislation line by line. We scrutinize the text, consider amendments, and ensure the Bill is as effective as possible for those who will implement it.
This landmark Bill is a crucial first step toward establishing an independent Commission to explore broader changes in the water industry. It includes provisions that empower regulators to:
- Block bonus payments to executives who pollute our waterways
- Bring criminal charges against water company bosses who repeatedly break the law
- Impose automatic and severe fines for violations, along with ensuring independent monitoring of every outlet.
I understand that addressing the sewage scandal we witnessed under the last Conservative government is a significant concern for us locally, and I am pleased to play a key role in tackling this issue nationally.

I asked you a question which you have not replied to, and as my MP who was voted in by the people who pay your wages, I would like an answer: What are the reasons you voted AGAINST a new national inquiry into the grooming gangs?
I reported a blocked sewer drain to Severn Trent on Sunday and they've told me today it may be another 4 day's until they come to look at it.
Well done Amanda x

Today, I met with local residents in both Long Whatton and Measham regarding the flooding that occurred this week. I understand how devastating this situation can be. We must take greater action to prevent future flooding and protect homes and businesses. I will continue to advocate with both national and local governments on flood defence schemes and funding to ensure we can implement the necessary measures in our community.

I wonder how any MPs would feel if it was their daughter, sister or niece who was groomed abused and no one was listening to them or doing more to stop the same happening to others. No matter who is in power now or in the past this needs recognising for both past and present victims of these horrendous crimes while the perpetrators walk free.
Acres of concrete with industrial units on them and hundreds of new homes discharging rainwater into the river. It’s not going to get better is it…
Amanda We are worried every time heavy rain is forecast as are the residents of Crawshaw Close and Mill Lane. Have been waiting since the first flood in 2014 for something to be done. Lots of visits, plans, drain inspections but no action

I want to pay tribute to the 47 people who lost their lives in the Kegworth Air Disaster on January 8th 1989. British Midland Flight 92 crashed on the M1 embankment near Kegworth while attempting an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport.
Today, 36 years on, we remember those who tragically died, and pay tribute to the acts of heroism from members of our emergency services and local residents who attended the scene. Each year a short service is held in their memory at the cemetery on Whatton Road where the memorial for the disaster is situated. ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you, Amanda. I was in a car on the M1 at the time. It is only right we remember them.
A long time ago now, but the events are still very vivid. Thank you Amanda Hack MP it still holds a place in a lot of hearts in the village; the wider area; and over in Northern Ireland. Gillian Squires lovely to see you.
Sorry I couldn’t be there 💜

Yesterday, during the urgent statement on the floods across Leicestershire and other areas, I asked the Minister for flooding, Emma Hardy MP, how we are going to alleviate repeat flooding in the future.
Recent events are not isolated incidents, we must do more to prevent future flooding and protect homes and businesses. I have seen first hand the damage and distress flooding causes. I will continue to press both national and local governments on flood defence schemes and funding to ensure we can take the necessary action locally.
I would like to thank our local volunteer Flood Wardens who work incredibly hard to help our communities when flooding does strike.
The Environment Agency is reviewing why so many warnings were issued late into the night yesterday and will provide me with an update on this shortly, as I know many people were caught off guard by this.
I will be meeting with the impacted residents that I spoke with yesterday later this week.

Well done Amanda, I do know of the work that you have already undertaken with regards to the flooding issues in Whitwick.
But you want to build more … use up land which can soak up water … Is this a wise strategy … We have space in Towns and Cities for regeneration
Well done. But they could start by doing regular drain clearing like what they used to do.
