Last week, I met with the Rail Minister Lord Hendy to discuss restoring the Ivanhoe Line and its importance to our community. I’m now launching a local transport survey to gather vital information and views, to assist with building the case for better public transport in our area.

I heard from a reliable source that CRIL had gathered extensive information and created a petition in 2023 … they have a team who did extensive research … are you looking to include their input ??
I would fill the survey out, but no matter how I type it, the CAPTCHA says it’s wrong.
I am very much in favour of a railway line with stations from Bardon and Coalville connecting to Leicester and Burton. I would use it many times a week. Could you explain the purpose of the survey? As you mention, you shared the business case so what is a survey needed for? It seems light on asking specific questions for a railway line but you are asking for a lot of my personal details such as phone number, address, email address, etc. it doesn’t explain why this data is required or what it is needed for and so how are you complaint with GDPR laws?

Many constituents have contacted me regarding the future plans for Work Capability Assessments and disability benefits. I raised these concerns with Secretary of State, and fellow Leicestershire MP, Liz Kendall during last week's Work & Pensions Select Committee.
I look forward to seeing the proposals that come forward over the coming months and am pleased these will be developed in conjunction with disabled people. ... See MoreSee Less

Raised the question but no answer . This seems to be the norm . I don’t know about everyone else but I am getting fed up of hearing 14yrs of conservative rule to blame . Labour then have had 14yrs to come up with a plan yet seem to have no clue but to keep blaming 14yrs on Tory rule .
Mmmmm. Very interesting. Basically, wait and see! I feel that was just a load of guff and she doesn't know what's happening. Lost my temper with Conservatives and after voting for Labour, in such a short time I do not hear much about positive change. All the systems are letting disabled people down. We cannot be equal with able bodied people and able bodied people cannot be equal with disabled people. We all do things differently and always will do. Our needs are different to able bodied people. We do not want equality we want to be treated with dignity and respected for who we are and what we can achieve due to the disabilities we have, mental or physical. I suggest that people making rules for disabled people get in a wheelchair, have an arm or leg tied up for a day, wear glasses that make them blind, wear ear plugs for a day etc etc and really see what life with a disability is really like. Now there's a challenge for Liz Kendall!
It's encouraging to see RT Hons. Liz Kendall advocating for a more holistic approach to (sick) disability claim. This shift is much-needed, especially when compared to the previous government's reliance on a legacy of tick-box assessments, which often failed to address the real needs of claimants. As witnessed throughout the years, many disabled claimants face significant challenges when trying to return to work. Delays in the claims process often create a fear of losing vital support, which discourages many from re-entering the workforce. This uncertainty leads to a cycle that can prevent individuals from regaining their independence and financial stability. It will be interesting to hear more about this approach and its potential to better support those in need.
The police in our community are committed to serving the public and keeping us safe. Here’s how we are supporting our police force with new reforms:
✅ Placing community policing at the forefront
✅ Government performance unit to drive force-level improvements and end the postcode lottery on law and order
✅ New national policing body
✅ Half a billion pounds of additional funding for policing next year

Does that mean more police knocking on doors because of Facebook and X posts?

There is no reason they can’t operate under the same rules as all the rest of us . Yet even after this change they still hold the best deal that any of us could ever dream of . There is no difference in the producers , the transporters, The processors or the retailers. They have held a priviedged position in society and still do . Albeit, not helped recently by TV celebrity so called farmers getting the benefit of this and other tax dodges. Quote , “£1 million will still receive 100% relief, but anything above that will be taxed at an effective rate of 20%, payable over ten years interest-free. However, there are notable caveats: farmers may avoid the tax by transferring property at least seven years before death. Many will also be able to take advantage standard household tax allowances if the farm is owned by a couple, potentially pushing up amount they can pass on tax free to £3 million.”. So 3 million is hardly going to hit the ordinary farmer at all , but your about to be targeted by a conservative backed campaign . What I can’t understand is how ordinary people get hood winked. This is standard financial practice in passing any property to existing family wether you are a farmer or not . Those well healed gentleman farmers are those who might land up foul of this new legislation . Not the run of the mill rural producer but of course they are still bound to huff and puff no one likes the rules to change its human nature . They all strive to be multi millionaires but few will reach the threshold. This legislation was clever in design but poor on PR . I will always support our farmers and we should always buy British when ever we can.
Please listen to them. Surely you don't agree with what your government is doing ti the small farms. Go to their farms, see how they live and see what little profits they make. This is just a land grab.
Hi Amanda. On a side note can your team please get around to replying to my email to yourself dated 5th September Here I am two and a half months later waiting for even an acknowledgment.

Being a County Councillor before I became an MP has given me a sense of the work of the Leicestershire Roads Safety Partnership, which reports to County Councillors the number of people who are involved in fatal collisions and the number who are seriously injured.
The work of Brake in supporting families is vital and having spoken to them previously about their work, it was important for me to meet them and campaigners during the launch of the victims charter.
I was also able to raise the issues of road safety and support for victims to the Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews in his visit to Parliament today.
Making our roads safer is an important to the new Labour Government and Louise Haigh and she highlighted this as a key issue in her responses to the Transport Select Committee last week.

All very reassuring and hopefully a real difference will be made, not just words. But as the family of a victim who can't even get acknowledgements from your office to genuine concerns over the early release scheme, I'm not confident.
Many people have contacted me regarding fireworks and the need to review the legislation surrounding them. I recently spoke to ITV Central about this issue ahead of bonfire night. I also attended the drop-in event organised by the Fireworks Working Group to discuss the need for better regulation to help protect our animals and vulnerable people.

Seeing as you've turned off the ability to comment on many other posts, I'll raise this here. As a constituent in your largely rural constituency, I would like you to oppose the government's nonsensical and destructive IHT raid on farmers. Will you do the right thing, or sit on your hands and let Starmer and his north London cronies ruin the very bedrock of our country?
Fireworks arn’t the problem, people are.
Something does need to be done about fireworks. It's getting out of hand.
Here’s a quick roundup of some recent, good news stories incase you missed any of them!

✅Voting to reform the House of Lords

What about stopping the boats ??
Great to be out on the doors earlier today chatting to local people in Whitwick division about their priorities and picking up casework along the way.
It was useful to update people about conversations that Cllr Peter Moult and I have been having with Severn Trent.
I also noticed a number of blocked drains on Swallow Dale which I have reported to Leicestershire County Council to find out when they will be cleared. ... See MoreSee Less

Great to be out in the Whitwick division with our MP. Picked up some interesting casework. Good to hear positive feedback about work Amanda and I have been doing to resolve flooding in this area. ❤️
Good to talk with residents this morning.
In Whitwick??? ….I love that this photo is in THRINGSTONE 😂 At least we can relax in the comfort that our MP knows her constituency 🙈
Yesterday, I attended the Alzheimer's Society drop-in to support the calls for mandatory dementia training for our social care workforce. Only 29% of social care workers in England have received any form of dementia training.
It was good to meet with the Care Quality Commission and Skills for Care, who have first-hand experience with dementia and social care, to discuss how we can increase the training of our social care workforce, enabling them to provide better care across our community.
