Over the past year, alongside colleagues in the Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG), I’ve continued to work closely with local farmers. I’ve met with more than 50 farmers across North West Leicestershire and have consistently pressed the Government to rethink its Inheritance and Property relief proposals.

When caught early, nine in ten people survive bowel cancer. That’s why this #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth I’m supporting Bowel Cancer UK to help raise awareness of the disease, so more people have the best possible chance of an early diagnosis.
Being aware of the symptoms is vital in spotting bowel cancer early. The sooner it’s detected, the more treatable it can be.
Please get involved and help spread the word. #PassItOn

Good news for our area 👇
The new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Leicester Royal Infirmary, alongside the expansion of the UTC at Queen’s Medical Centre, is a very welcome step forward. It will help increase capacity and improve access across our local hospitals.
I’ve visited both hospitals and spoken with East Midlands Ambulance Service. I’ve seen first-hand the immense pressure our A&E departments are under - from overcrowding, to ambulance queues waiting to hand patients over.
This investment will make a real difference, meaning more patients will be seen quickly, receive safer, more timely care and provide greater dignity for those needing urgent treatment as we move to end “corridor care”.
It’s exactly the kind of practical, frontline improvement we need - easing pressure on emergency services while making sure people get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
This also builds on progress to roll out Neighbourhood Health Services across North West Leicestershire, bringing together GPs, community nurses, social care teams and others to deliver more joined-up care closer to home.
A positive step forward for patients, staff, and our NHS. ... See MoreSee Less

A few weeks ago I spoke in a debate on ‘Productivity and economic growth in the East Midlands’ 👇
North West Leicestershire, in the centre of the East Midlands, is sitting on a bundle of incredible opportunity.
However, one of the barriers to growth in the East Midlands is transport, with spending per head at just 54% of the UK average.
You can watch a snippet of my speech below, or read it in full here: hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2026-03-17/debates/0204EF65-FE5E-4152-A9B3-944766AE696F/details#con...
I ended my speech by asking the Minister to ensure that the East Midlands is talked about not simply as a place for opportunity, but as a powerhouse for growth.
And the only way to ensure that North West Leicestershire thrives long term is to ensure that the East Midlands thrives together. ... See MoreSee Less

What a lovely day for a meeting with the Ashby Canal Trust at Moira Furnace.
Great to hear an update on the work of the Trust. The dedication to the Canal from the Trust is inspiring.
The Furnace and park are also looking fabulous after the works completed by This Is NWLeics. Congratulations to all
involved. Shame the sun was hiding when I took the picture!
As always great coffee at the Furnace Cafe.
Good to pop into Sable Studio Gallery and Furnace Lane Pottery whilst I was there. Definitely worth a visit. ... See MoreSee Less

In a recent debate on direct train services to London from rural towns, I highlighted frustrating reality for many people locally, that it can take longer to reach a train station via public transport than the train journey itself to London.
That’s the situation for too many residents. Long, indirect routes to the nearest station make what should be a straightforward trip unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming.
Public transport should make life easier, but right now, it's just too complex locally.
The Ivanhoe Line would provide a straightforward way to connect with onward public transport, making it far easier to reach other destinations and ensuring that getting to a station doesn’t take longer than the journey itself! ... See MoreSee Less
